For far too long, transgender people have been treated as second class citizens and faced terrible discrimination. In the United States, 41 per cent of transgender people have attempted suicide, compared to 4.6 per cent of the overall population. That is a terrible number, and it shows that it’s far past time for transgender people to be treated with the full respect and dignity that all human beings deserve.
While there are a wide range of views, I think the one thing we can all agree on is that nobody should be pushed towards feeling they need to end their own life. Protecting human life is important, and if we keep that thought in our minds, we can find a way to ensure that transgender people have the same opportunity as all citizens to thrive, prosper, and be free to live as who they are.
