Iran On Notice
The Trump Administration is considering officially designating Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
The move would reportedly come through an executive order.
The IRGC is considered Iran’s most powerful military organization, and it is heavily influential politically.
Tensions between the US and Iran are rising. Iran recently tested a ballistic Missile, and refered to Donald Trump as a “fool.” After the missile test, the White House said Iran was officially “on notice.”
However, Iran may be increasingly worried about the tougher US administration, as Iran’s military reportedly cancelled a planned missile test (of a Safir Missile) at the last-minute.
In addition to the “on notice” warning, the US has also imposed additional sanctions on Iran.
While the Obama Administration generally took a passive stance internationally, Trump has made increasingly tough statements, and his unpredictability is causing increasing worry among both enemies and friends of the United States.
While the uncertainty is uncomfortable for some, it could help increase America’s negotiating strength and leverage.
If Iran is already taking conciliatory actions (despite sabre-rattling for public consumption), it could be a sign that a tougher US approach has people thinking differently.
