The United States is putting China on the list of the worst human trafficking and forced labour offenders.
The move was formally made by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
As reported by Reuters, the United States has placed China on the “Tier 3” list – the lowest possible grade.
China is now grouped with Syria, Iran, North Korea, and others.
While such a rating often leads to sanctions, in many cases those sanctions are waived.
As is typical, China pushed back on any criticism of their dismal human rights record.
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said, “China resolutely opposes the U.S. side making thoughtless remarks in accordance with its own domestic law about other countries’ work in fighting human trafficking.”
According to Reuters, State Department human trafficking experts wanted China downgraded to Tier 3 in 2015, but senior diplomats in the Obama Administration blocked the move.
Trudeau remains silent
As criticism of China’s human rights record mounts in many parts of the world, Justin Trudeau remains silent.
Not only has he refused to criticize China, but he is actively seeking to push a pro-China propaganda campaign to build support for a free trade agreement.
Trudeau shows no willingness to speak up for the values he claims to represent, rendering his words on human rights meaningless and hypocritical.
China does not operate by the same values and principles as Canada and much of the Western world.
We forget that at our own peril.
The elites want to hide their many failures behind political correctness, deception, and manipulation. We need to push back and spread the truth.
That’s why I write.
