China’s Communist government is expanding their internet crackdown – investigating the top social media sites in the country for not complying with restrictive new internet laws.
The crackdown focuses on Weibo (a twitter-like service), and WeChat (a messaging service).
Facebook and Twitter are banned in China.
Under the rules, the Chinese Communist Party has expanded control over what content is deemed acceptable or not. This represents an even more restrictive internet policy, in a country that already has massive government surveillance.
As noted by Reuters, “President Xi Jinping has made China’s “cyber sovereignty” a top priority and has also reasserted the ruling party’s role in limiting and guiding online discussion. Surveillance is being further tightened ahead of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party later this year, when global attention will be on news coming from the world’s No.2 economy.”
The move comes after China banned Virtual Private Networks (VPN’s), one of the few ways people can access information and content freely.
A reminder of the true nature of China’s repressive government
As I recently reported, a disturbing new poll shows the corrupt elitist propaganda has led to many Canadians viewing China’s government more favourably than they view the U.S. government. That’s why we must keep spreading the truth about the true nature of China’s authoritarian state.
The elites don’t like talking about what’s really happening in China, because it reveals the true nature of the regime they’re trying to sell us out to. After all, if China treats their own people so horribly, what is to stop them from treating the people of other countries even worse?
As much as Justin Trudeau may admire China’s “basic dictatorship” and their crackdown on the few freedoms remaining in the country, Canadians must push back on efforts to give China more power over us. We must stay true to our values, and defend our freedom at all costs.
The elites want to hide their many failures behind political correctness, deception, and manipulation. We need to push back and spread the truth.
That’s why I write.
