Toronto Raptors Sign Forward Greg Monroe

It’s a one-year, $2.2 million deal.

The Toronto Raptors have signed free agent forward Greg Monroe to a $2.2 million, one-year contract.

The 28-year-old Monroe will serve as the backup centre, with Jonas Valunciunas ahead of him on the depth chart.

Here’s what Josh Lewenberg of TSN said about the acquisition of Monroe:

“The Raptors’ biggest frontcourt need was rim protection. Monroe doesn’t address that, but 1) they’re confident their perimeter D (which could be elite) will offset it, and 2) he gives them an experienced and talented scorer/passer at a position of need.”

“How much Monroe ends up playing remains to be seen. The Raptors were arguably the NBA’s deepest team last year. They’re even deeper now. Opportunity is there, but he’ll have to earn it. At this cost, it’s a low risk-medium reward move for Toronto.”

Monroe played 51 games last year for the Boston Celtics and Phoenix Suns. He averaged 10.2 points per game.

Spenser: What is this doing on your website. I don’t give a toss about BB nor any other sports. I want to read about how Trudeau is screwing up this country and I like to read other people’s comments on it and see how they align with mine. So no more sports!
