Ferguson died at age 60, following a battle with cancer.

Following the passing of Auditor General Michael Ferguson, Canadian political leaders shared their thoughts.

“Jill and I were saddened to hear of Auditor General Michael Ferguson’s passing. On behalf of @CPC_HQ I offer my deepest condolences to & prayers for his family, and loved ones. He served Canadians with honour and dedication throughout his remarkable career and he will be missed.”

“Mike Ferguson’s lifetime of exemplary service to Canadians and his important work as Auditor General will have a lasting impact on our country. My deepest condolences to his wife Georgina, his sons, and his loved ones.”

“Terrible news. Michael Ferguson was a force to be reckoned with, helping to ensure that government worked in the best interest of Canadians. He will be sorely missed – we’ll be keeping his family in our thoughts today.”

Ferguson was highly regarded as someone willing to bring attention to things the government (regardless of party), would rather have kept secret.

In a statement, his office said “Mr. Ferguson will be remembered by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him as a humble, compassionate and thoughtful man. He cared deeply about conducting audits that brought value to the public service, always for the greater good of Canadians.”
