Trump Moves Closer To Huawei Ban With Executive Order

US President declares ‘national emergency’ in relation to threats to American tech.

Donald Trump has signed an Executive Order declaring a ‘National Emergency’ over threats against American technology.

The order gives US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross the ability to reject transactions relating to information and communications technology that “poses an unacceptable risk to the national security of the United States.”

The executive order is widely seen as laying the groundwork for the Trump Administration to ban the use of Huawei technology in the United States.

Since companies in China are controlled either indirectly or directly by the Communist Party – and must submit to whatever orders the Communist Party gives – many see a considerable risk in allowing Huawei to get further and further integrated into communications infrastructure.

There is a potential risk of spying and sabotage, and the US appears unwilling to take that risk any longer.

The move comes as the trade war between the US and China heats up, and as China lashes out against Canada by illegitimately detaining Canadian Citizens and shutting out Canadian products under flimsy pretexts.
