Newfoundland & Labrador Liberals Lose Majority, Barely Hold On To Power

Yet another Liberal government loses support and bleeds away votes.

With Liberal governments falling across the country due to discontent with Justin Trudeau’s endless failures, many were watching closely to see what would happen in Newfoundland & Labrador.

The incumbent Liberal government had won a massive majority in the last election, winning three quarters of the seats. They headed into the campaign with 27 seats in the 40 seat legislature, with a total of 21 seats needed for a majority.

With the results in, it appears that the Liberals have lost their majority in the province.

They have fallen down to 20 seats, while the PCs went from 6 to 15.

The NDP won 3 seats, with two independents also elected.

So, while it’s not a direct loss for the Liberals, it’s yet another example of them losing support across the nation. The Newfoundland and Labrador Liberals had won the popular vote in a landslide last time, yet barely won the popular vote this time.

And Newfoundland and Labrador was a province the Liberals won massively in the 2015 federal election.

That means tonight’s provincial election is yet more evidence that Justin Trudeau has had a devastating impact on the Liberal brand across the nation – even in former Liberal strongholds.
